Francisco Figueiras Velo

Francisco Figueiras Velo has been conducting research since 2023. He holds a BSc and an MSc in Civil Engineering, both from the University of A Coruña (UDC), Spain. As an assistant researcher in the Group of Numerical Methods in Engineering (UDC), he worked on the geomechanics, safety, and structural integrity of salt caverns for underground hydrogen storage in the GREEN-HUGS project. In 2025, he joined Dr. Guillermo Lorenzo’s team to pursue his PhD in Civil Engineering within the PCATWIN project, developing biomechanistic models, numerical methods, and hybrid classifiers to build a digital twin for the clinical management of newly diagnosed prostate cancer through personalized, imaging-informed tumor forecasting.

His interests include computational mechanics and biomechanics, immersed boundary methods and isogeometric analysis, medical image-based modeling, data-driven prediction, and patient-specific cancer forecasting. Outside the lab, he likes to play basketball and to suffer while watching Deportivo de A Coruña
